THE ROLE OF ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE IN LAW: OPPORTUNITIES, CHALLENGES, AND LEGAL IMPLICATIONS

In the 21st century, Artificial Intelligence (AI) has become one of the most disruptive technologies affecting nearly all areas of life, such as healthcare, financial services, education, government, and the legal profession. The use of AI in law has opened up new opportunities for improving legal research, the efficiency of legal proceedings, administrative burden reduction, and access to justice. Document analysis, contract review, legal prediction, case management, and decision-support systems are among the document analysis technologies increasingly utilized with AI. These advancements can transform the way legal matters are processed and establish a more streamlined and accessible legal framework. Yet, AI's application in the legal field introduces some substantial legal, ethical and social issues. The question of algorithmic bias, transparency, accountability, data privacy, professional responsibility and algorithm replacement of human judgment need to be investigated. The application of AI in legal processes requires adherence to principles of fairness, accountability, and human oversight, as legal decisions have a direct impact on human rights, freedoms, and social justice. The possibilities available in the legal sector due to AI, the hurdles of its use, and the broader legal implications of AI in decision-making will be discussed. Overall, the article highlights the importance of understanding that AI should not replace lawyers, but rather be used as a tool to complement their work and ensure that legal services are provided in a manner that upholds core legal principles and values, including justice, equality, and the rule of law.
